Property owners urged to pay taxes early
December 6, 2013 (updated)
Manila, Philippines – Las Piñas City Mayor Vergel “Nene” Aguilar assured taxpayers that the money they pay are prudently spent and given back to them through sustained social services and development projects.
Aguilar urged property owners to pay their real property taxes (RPT) due for 2014 early to avail of discounts. Advance payment of RPT is given 20 percent off from taxes due when paid last November, while payments done from December 1, 2013 until March 31, 2014 get 10 percent.
About 95,000 residential and commercial lots are registered in the city and some 27,000 house structures and buildings. All can avail of tax relief under justifiable circumstances since all possible support has been extended to unburden the taxpayers even as the city needs to collect due revenues to fund its programs and operations, he said.
“Let me assure our taxpayers that the taxes they pay are wisely managed and duly appropriated to sustain our services and benefits already in place,” Aguilar said.
Compared to other cities in Metro Manila, Las Piñas’ income is only 14% of Makati, and about 50 percent of Muntinlupa, Parañaque and Pasay, being basically a residential community.
In spite of meager income, the city provides free daycare, high school and college education as well as information technology courses to thousands of youths. Also free hospitalization amounting to R30,000 for every beneficiary; health care services; shelter for informal settlers; more school buildings and facilities; road repairs and other infrastructure improvements.
